According to folklore, he lived high in the cliffs of Nosgoth's northern mountains, and preyed mercilessly on the defenseless villagers below. His reign of terror ended when the Sarafan finally hunted him down and tore his throbbing heart from his still-living body. This relic came to be known as the 'Heart of Darkness', and was supposedly imbued with the power to restore vampiric unlife. The Sarafan therefore guarded it carefully, lest the Heart fall into the hands of their enemies. But I wondered - could Janos Audron truly have been as monstrous as depicted here? Or was this merely artistic license by the Sarafan, who sought to lionize themselves by demonizing their darkest enemy?» |

The Sarafan Lord: This round is mine, Dark One.
The Sarafan Lord vanishes. Janos starts to get up.
Janos: I must tend to Vorador. Proceed without us, Kain. I can teleport you to a place near the gate, but you will have to close it on your own. Use the Nexus Stone. Cast it into the gate, and the magic of the stone will destroy it utterly.
Kain: Cast your spell then, and let us finish this.» |

I have heard tell of strange discoveries deep underground. Ancient legends speak of huge machines deep in the earth, left by the Gods in eons past. And I know of one who can tell us the truth of this matter. She is a Seer, a being said to be older even than I. We are fortunate in that she owes me a favor.
Go to her, Kain, and learn what she knows.» |

Raziel: Perhaps, but something has changed, hasn't it? You didn't foresee Kain's return.
Elder God:
You have both traced your paths along the Wheel - this is where the journey ends.
Raziel:
You haven't the means to kill either one of us.
Elder God:
Ah, but you can be stopped.
The room shakes.
Elder God:
And you will come to understand how oblivion can be a mercy. You and Kain will spend eternity buried here together, praying for the merciful release of a death that will never come.
The room shakes again, and Raziel falls to hands and knees, facing the Scion of Balance and Champion murals; all three have been knocked down from the upper level, and now rest at the bottom of the forge.
Raziel V.O.: But I was armed with newfound knowledge, and it burned within me...
Raziel starts to piece together what other people have told him.
Janos V.O.:
...redeemer and destroyer...
Raziel V.O.:
Moebius had never seen his master until the Soul Reaver purified his sight. Even the ancient Vampires had no idea what it was they so righteously worshipped.
Ariel V.O.: ...you must unite what has been set asunder...
Raziel V.O.:
All the conflict and the strife throughout history, all the fear and hatred, served but one purpose - to keep my master's Wheel turning. All souls were prisoners, trapped in the pointless round of existence, leading distracted, blunted lives until death returned them - always in ignorance - to the Wheel.
Kain V.O.: ...the coin is still turning...
Raziel V.O.: But what hope had there been? One cannot fight the unseen.
Ariel V.O.:
...only then will the Scion of Balance be armed for his true endeavor...
Elder God: Despair, Raziel. There is no escape.
Raziel V.O.: It was then I knew what I had to do. I alone could end this.
In the Material Realm, Kain examines Moebius's staff, unaware of Raziel using Moebius's body to manifest behind him.
Moebius/Raziel: Kain...
Kain turns - and seeing only Moebius - reacts, again impaling Moebius on the Blood Reaver.
Kain: Do you so enjoy death -
'Moebius' becomes Raziel as Raziel manifests fully.
Moebius/Raziel: Yes...
Kain:
Raziel!? No -
Horrified, Kain tries to pull out the sword. Raziel grabs Kain's wrist, preventing him from withdrawing the blade.
Raziel:
Yes - this is how...
Kain:
No. Raziel!
Raziel: (struggling to speak)
The Soul Reaver - pure of all corruption - this is what it is for. This is what I am for -
Raziel lays his right hand on Kain's chest wound, the wraith Reaver manifesting.
Raziel: (struggling to speak)
The two become one - both Soul Reavers - together - and the Scion of Balance is healed. And I - am not your enemy - not your destroyer - I am, as before, your right hand. Your sword.
Raziel slumps, nearly drained.
Kain:
No, Raziel - this can't be the way...
Raziel: (hoarsely)
And now you will see - the true enemy -
Raziel's physical form fades leaving Kain's Reaver aglow with its new endowment. It is now the Soul Reaver.
Kain: (sadly)
Raziel -
As Kain pulls the Soul Reaver from the wall and turns, the Elder God becomes visible to him.
Kain V.O.: And it was then - I saw.
Elder God:
So... I am revealed to you at last.» |

Этот факт наталкивает на еще одну небезынтересную мысль, ибо говорит о том, что Разиэлю изначально было предначертано стать душой клинка и даже более того…
Во время битвы с Каином в Авернусе, как и до неё, мы видели, что в глазах Разиэля периодически вспыхивало зеленое свечение. Забрав душу Туреля, вместе с ней он получил не только более сильные телекинетические способности брата, но и его проклятье – одержимость несколькими Хилден, контролирующими его. Именно в этот момент, когда Разиэль заключил в себе душу Туреля, мы впервые видим зеленое свечение в его глазах. Те Хилден не могли контролировать Разиэля подобно тому, как они это делали с Турелем, ибо он был изначально много сильнее своего названного брата. Но они оказались способны подхлестнуть его ярость в нужное время, а именно во время его столкновения с Каином.
Разиель, изучая фрески древних рас, пришел к выводу, что он был именно Героем Хилден, тем более что этот факт подтвердили Старший Бог и Мортаниус. В ужасе от того, что он никогда не сможет избежать своей ужасной судьбы и станет вечно голодным духом в Похитителе Душ, Разиель, чей гнев подпитывали Хилден, просто не воспринимал того, что пытался передать ему Каин. И лишь после того, как он вырвал Сердце Тьмы из груди Каина и после того, как он бросил его в Измерение Демонов, Хилден отпустили его. Лишь после этого Разиель начинает понимать, что он натворил.
«Kain is thrown back by the force of one of Raziel's attacks. Raziel starts forward, raising the wraith blade for a finishing blow, but Kain counters, seizing Raziel's wrist with his left hand. A connection is made and, using Kain's body as a conduit, Raziel's essence begins to flow into the Blood Reaver, which is still in Kain's right hand. Raziel begins to collapse, his physical form flickering.
Raziel: (fading)
Ahh... You...
Kain: (horrified)
No - Raziel -
Raziel:
Vae Victis -
Kain:
I didn't -
He doesn't get to finish. Raziel's eyes flare green one final time and he rallies, plunging his claws into Kain's chest and ripping out the Heart of Darkness. He holds up the heart triumphantly.
Raziel:
'Woe to the conquered' - I have found the Heart of Darkness. And you - go to oblivion.
Raziel hurls Kain into a forming portal with a TK blast, and he vanishes. The green now fades from Raziel's eyes, leaving him contemplating what he has done.
Raziel:
Kain was gone. The madness of this place had somehow fueled my rage, and as it subsided I felt no elation, no sense of victory. Only a calm certainty that we had once again walked blindly into our enemies' trap. I couldn't be sure whether Kain had truly intended to destroy me - and now it appeared I would never know.» |

As Raziel enters the Spirit Forge, four of the Elder God's tentacles sprout from the floor and hover around the Forge's altar.
Raziel: I should have known I'd find you here.
Elder God: Here and everywhere... Now and always. I am the Wheel and its turning; I am the Circle of life and death.
Raziel: (cynically)
And I am beginning to think the Vampires committed suicide only to escape your voice.
Elder God: Do not forego my favor with your impertinence, Raziel. You have finally fulfilled your purpose. I am pleased.
Raziel: What are you trying to obliterate here, then? What is it about me that has you so afraid?
Three murals decorate the Forge. In the center is an image of Kain, although he has been depicted with the black wings and blue skin of the Ancients - a representation of what they expected their Scion of Balance to look like.
Elder God: (chuckling)
Your fate is trivial, Raziel. It was Kain's destiny that mattered all along.
The four tentacles seize the Spirit Forge, dragging it down a short distance before knotting themselves over the Forge's aperture, blocking it.
Raziel V.O.:
My master seemed keen to extinguish the purifying fire of the Spirit Forge. Perhaps the Reaver would loosen his grip...» |
В руках статуи Разиэля мы видим сам Похититель Крови… И когда Разиэль активирует Горн Огня, на поверхности клинка появляется его Огненный двойник, очень напоминающий оружие Чемпиона Хилден. В Горне Духа в Difeance на центральной фреске мы можем видеть единственное изображение самого легендарного Похитителя Душ – завершенного оружия в руках предсказанного Спасителя Носгота – Наследника Равновесия, которым является Каин... Два становятся одним – оба Похитителя вместе… Похититель Крови – физическая форма Меча - и Похититель Духов – очищенный от коррупции Дух Похитителя… они и являют собой Похититель Душ, будучи объединенными.
Статуя Разиэля, находящаяся в Горне Огня, явно говорит о том, что Разиэль и есть тот, кто принесет обе формы легендарного Похитителя, объединит их вместе и таким образом вооружит Наследника Равновесия.

Mortanius: Ah, now you think of that. But as I told you, you are too late. The Heart has served its function. I have used it to set prophecy in motion. I created the champion foretold by my masters, who is destined to be your destroyer. The Scion of Balance will save Nosgoth - the Pillars will return to Vampire guardianship as intended, and your race will be cast down forever.
Raziel: Kain. You used the Heart of Darkness to create Kain.
Mortanius: How else? I refused at first to believe the ancient myths. I thought the vampires were simply a plague upon mankind, a pestilence we had to control. But they were right, and we were wrong to overthrow them - Moebius and I. We didn't understand what it was the Pillars were holding back. I have made my atonement. I will continue to make it to the end, which will be soon, now. But I know - Kain will set it right, he will restore Balance -
The Hylden Lord tries to seize control again, but loses.
Mortanius: And none too soon. My enemy is growing stronger.
Raziel: Where is the Heart of Darkness now? Did you destroy it?
Mortanius: (laughing)
You still don't understand, do you. You cannot make use of it as long as Kain guards it with his life.
Raziel: (incredulous)
Kain - has it?
Realization dawns, and finally Raziel understands.
Raziel: (shocked)
It is in Kain!
Mortanius: Check and mate. This deed will redeem first me and then all Nosgoth. It must, it - unh -
The Hylden Lord's presence asserts itself forcefully.» |

We are reminded of past events, of Kain's empire, and the execution of Raziel, his first and greatest lieutenant. We see how Raziel became a reaver of souls, and how he pursued Kain through the Chronoplast portal into Nosgoth's history.
Kain V.O.:
But does one ever truly have a choice? One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate, and thus defy the tyrannous stars.» |

Kain arrives back at the Vampire Citadel, and views the destroyed Pillars from the council chamber.
«Kain V.O.: I knew what ominous hour this was in Nosgoth's history. For here was the event that had shaped my entire existence... I had cast my fate, refusing the sacrifice, damning the Pillars, and founding my doomed empire upon their ruins. I would raise the Sarafan priests to be my closest Lieutenants, and would one day cast the strongest of them, my servant Raziel, into the Abyss - dealing one last hand to play against Fate. But in the end, had it made any difference? Had I misread the signs, as Moebius told me? In my arrogance, had I missed my cast at destiny?» |

Raziel stumbles upon his first encounter with Kain inside the now dilapidated and abandoned Pillars; he does not know that Kain will be waiting for him there. As Raziel enters the room, Kain is leaning casually on his former throne, the Soul Reaver strapped to his back. He has clearly been waiting for Raziel...
Kain: Raziel.
Raziel: Kain!
Kain: The abyss has been unkind.
Kain rises and begins to approach Raziel, casually but menacingly.
Raziel:
I am your creation, Kain - now, as before. You criticize your own work.
What have you done with my clan, degenerate? You have no right--
Kain: What I have made, I can also destroy, child.
Raziel:
Damn you, Kain! You are not God! This act of genocide is unconscionable!
Kain: Conscience...? You dare speak to me of conscience? Only when you have felt the full gravity of choice should you dare to question my judgment!
Your life’s span is a flicker compared to the mass of doubt and regret that I have borne since Mortanius first turned me from the light... To know that the fate of the world hangs dependent on the advisedness of my every deed -- can you even begin to conceive what action you would take, in my position?
Raziel:
I would choose integrity, Kain.
Kain: Look around you, Raziel - see what has become of our empire. Witness the end of an age. The clans, scattered to the corners of Nosgoth...
This place has outlasted its usefulness -- as have you.
As Kain utters this last line, he draws the Soul Reaver from its scabbard; its energy leaps to life.
Raziel:
The Soul Reaver, Kain’s ancient blade - older than any of us, and a thousand times more deadly.
The legends claimed that the blade was possessed, and thrived by devouring the souls of its victims.
For all our bravado, we knew what it meant when Kain drew the Soul Reaver in anger - it meant you were dead.
If Raziel is defeated in the battle, then upon his return:
Kain: My wayward son returns...
The combat ends when the Soul Reaver is destroyed -
Kain: The blade is vanquished. So it unfolds... and we are a step closer to our destinies.
When Raziel drops back into spectral, he discovers that the Soul Reaver - now a wraith blade - is hovering there.
Raziel:
I swore I saw a glint of satisfaction in Kain’s eye when the Soul Reaver was destroyed. I did not understand the game that Kain was playing. But I knew the finishing move.
Raziel reaches out and grasps the sword. The blade flares to life, its energy melding with Raziel’s.
Elder God: From this moment and ever afterward, you and this blade are inextricably bound. Soul Reaver and reaver of souls, your destinies are intertwined.
By destroying the sword, you have liberated it from its corporeal prison, and restored it to its true form - a wraith blade, its energy unbound. No longer a physical blade, it can only manifest itself in the material realm when your strength is fully restored. Once manifest, it will sustain you.»
Raziel: "By the power of Grayskull..."
Once the transformation was complete, he continued:
